Description
Dahi Bara Aloo Dum is one of Eastern India’s most cherished dishes — a combination of creamy yogurt-soaked lentil dumplings (dahi bara) and spicy potato curry (aloo dum). Together, they create a beautiful balance of flavors — cool and fiery, creamy and crunchy, sweet and tangy.
The dahi bara are made from urad dal batter, deep-fried to golden perfection, and then soaked in cool, whisked yogurt seasoned with salt, cumin, and black salt. They’re soft, light, and melt in your mouth.
On the other side is the aloo dum — baby potatoes cooked in a thick, aromatic gravy made with tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and a medley of traditional spices. The curry is bold, tangy, and slightly spicy, adding the perfect contrast to the gentle flavor of the dahi bara.
When served together, topped with tamarind chutney, coriander, and sev, this dish becomes a flavor explosion — refreshing, spicy, and deeply satisfying. It’s a staple at festivals, family gatherings, and street food corners across Odisha and Bengal.
Dahi Bara Aloo Dum is more than a meal — it’s a cultural experience that captures the diversity and richness of Eastern Indian cuisine.
